Love the beach? Save the ocean.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, BRAND DEVELOPMENT, BRAND IDENTITY

Every year more than 40 million plastic sandals end up in the world's oceans. And it takes hundreds of years for them to decompose. One way to make a difference are the new, biologically degradable beach shoes from Cocolette. From product design to branding and marketing, they are synonymous with natural materials and a vacation feeling – and they inspire customers to act sustainably.

Sustainable along every step of the cycle

Inspired by the Cradle-to-Cradle® approach, Cocolette is focused on sustainability throughout the entire production cycle – from the raw materials to the items made from them, including the product itself and its ultimate disposal. Every Cocolette is a hand-made in collaboration with Mother Nature. And when it has reached the end of its product lifetime, it is returned to the natural environment.

Coconut shell fibers

Part of the sole is made of woven coconut fibers: they are durable, easy to clean, movable, lightweight, moisture resistant, antistatic and antibacterial. For the shoe boxes are also used exclusively coconut fibers.

Pineapple leaf fibers

The straps are sewn from the natural textile Pinatex®, which is obtained from pineapple leaf fibers. It is soft, light and durable - and is dyed with vegetable dyes.

Vegetable tanned leather

Only compostable tanning materials such as tree bark and fruit are used in the tanning of the leather for the sole. This makes the leather particularly skin-friendly and durable.

Coconut, inside and out!

Sustainable raw materials play a major role throughout the entire brand identity. The logo refers to coconuts, which are one of the primary raw materials. Colors like sandy coconut brown, pearl white and ocean black remind customers of a vacation on the beach. Bright coral red is used as an accent color – also on the packaging, where the product information is printed using as little ink as possible.

VOGUE Germany

“Designer Laura Ullmann has created an intelligent alternative with her Cocolette flip-flops, which are not only beneficial from an ecological point of view, but quite stylish as well.”

Become an ocean rescuer too!

Our colleague Laura already had the idea for the Cocolette during her studies. When she started as a designer with us, the innovative product was also already being heard: in some media and sustainability awards. We didn't want it to stop there, but wanted the Cocolette to be on the shelves soon. We are therefore supporting Laura so that she can continue to develop the Cocolette alongside her day-to-day project work. The result: From March 2022, you can buy the summer shoes at Manufactum.
