N ÜBER C was born out of an interest in trying screen printing on a new material and a desire to support a good cause. The collection of accessories is made from cork fabric – printed by hand and hand sewn by the Frankfurt label frisch Beutel. Abstract maritime distress signals give the collection its name and also highlight the purpose of the project: 100% of the proceeds are donated to a charity that helps refugees in distress at sea. The use of cork also ties in with this aim: as everyone knows, cork doesn’t sink.

For N ÜBER C, we used abstract interpretations of three different maritime distress signals which are commonly used in international shipping. We took flags that are hoisted on top of one another and printed them one on top of the other in two different layers. The message can be decoded, but it doesn’t have to be. N ÜBER C makes a subtle statement with an eye-catching design featuring a distinctive combination of screen printing and cork.

The idea at the heart of the N ÜBER C collection stemmed from an agency screen-printing workshop: creatives were experimenting with the technique. Afterwards we tested it on the trend material cork leather and developed together with the Frankfurt label frisch Beutel a collection of 100 handmade unique items. All proceeds from the sale of the collection will be donated.
