Here's to 50 years of German-Israeli relations! BBDO Berlin develops the official friendship drink: Mazelprost
Hummus craft beer as a token of friendship / Bottle was designed by the Peter Schmidt Group / First toast with "Mazelprost" at the Opera Ball in Leipzig
This year Germany and Israel are celebrating a very special anniversary: 50 years of diplomatic relations. As a fitting tribute to the remarkable friendship between the two countries, the BBDO Berlin and BBDO Tel Aviv advertising agencies have developed "Mazelprost" in collaboration with the organizer of the Leipzig Opera Ball. This new beverage combines two culinary specialties from the two countries, namely hummus and beer.
In addition to the customary ingredients water, yeast, hops and malt, Mazelprost consists one-fifth of chickpea. The name also links the two countries together: the word Mazelprost is made up of Hebrew "Mazel Tov", meaning "Good luck!" and the German "Prost" ("Cheers!").
At the instigation and with the support of BBDO, the Research Institute for Brewing and Malting Technology in Berlin (VLB Berlin) worked for two months on a recipe for the blending of hops and chickpea. The result is a slightly sweet craft beer, 2000 bottles of which have been produced initially by the Berlin-based Schoppe Bräu brewery. The bottle was designed by BBDO Group Germany's design experts – the Peter Schmidt Group.
First to try out Mazelprost will be the guests at the Opera Ball in Leipzig on October 31, 2015. The motto of this year's event is "Shalom Israel": instead of "Cheers" or "Chin", guests will be wishing one another "Mazelprost!". This culinary promotion is being supported by the Israeli State Tourist Board, which will also be represented at the Opera Ball. After the event in Leipzig, Mazelprost will be available in selected bars in several other cities.
Appropriately, this German-Israeli friendship project is being undertaken jointly by the BBDO offices in Berlin and Tel Aviv. Full information about the product is available at www.mazelprost.org
