Peter Schmidt Group wins three prizes at the 2019 Corporate Design Preis
At this year's Corporate Design Preis, 48 projects were added to the Wall of Fame. Germany's most successful brand and design agency Peter Schmidt Group was responsible for two of the award-winning works, receiving a total of three awards: two for the corporate design for Douglas and one for the new agency typeface Peter Schmidt Type.
"Both our work for Douglas and the development of our agency typeface Peter Schmidt Type are the kind of design work that people like and understand – except when they don't. Both projects are somewhat polarizing. We are very pleased that these distinctive, independent manifestations have received special recognition," says Lukas Cottrell, Managing Partner of Peter Schmidt Group.
The jury of the 27th Corporate Design Preis honored the corporate design for Douglas in two categories: "Corporate Design Redesign" as well as "Corporate Trademark and Logotype Design." Peter Schmidt Group's work for Europe's leading beauty retailer marks a visual new beginning for Douglas that radically breaks with the image it has established over the past 50 years. The new lettering is sans serif and cursive – but at the same time unmistakable thanks to striking details such as letters with different widths.
Peter Schmidt Group was also honored in the Corporate Typography/Font/Image category for its new house typeface, the Peter Schmidt font. The brand and design agency derived the new font from the handwriting of the agency's founder, German design icon Peter Schmidt. A distinctive typeface with a comprehensive set of fonts was created in honor of his 80th birthday. With styles and weights including Sans, Serif, Script, Slab, Neoclassical and Blackletter, every iteration of the new typeface features the special characteristics of Peter Schmidt's handwriting.
