Big gain for big game

We support the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya

The elephant has been our trademark for 50 years. In 2023, we therefore want to contribute to something big, and support the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya – to ensure elephants get the protection they need. And our colleagues get the matching New Year's gift: A backpack with an exciting backstory.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is considered the world's most successful rescue and reintroduction station for orphaned elephants. Its rangers often work under the most difficult conditions – and they achieve great things. Since 1977 they have rescued and raised more than 300 orphaned elephants. Treated more than 10,000 wounded animals. And they have 23 teams fighting poaching. This is work that we support from the bottom of our hearts. We are proud to donate to their ongoing efforts.

Three of more than 300 orphaned elephants rescued

Mwinzi

Mwinzi lost his mother while he was still nursing. He was not yet ready for plant food, but vegetation was his only option to avoid starvation. Today he's obsessed with greens – and has put on quite a bit of baby fat at the nursery.

Rafiki

Elephant hunters killed his mother, leaving him alone in the wild. And yet he's one of the most friendly and lovable elephants the rangers ever met. They named him Rafiki – the Swahili word for “friend.”

Doldol

My goodness, how tiny she is! Doldol was discovered on 22 November 2021. Her mother must have been disturbed while giving birth, and deserted her calf. Doldol found a surrogate father in gamekeeper Mishak, whom she immediately loved dearly. In the meantime she has become a big sister to another orphaned elephant.

Why we support the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

We are used to designing big brands and managing big tasks. Since our founding, the elephant accompanies us as a trademark. It has a high emotional value for us. In the new year, we want to contribute to the longterm survival of this majestic species on our planet. That's why we are supporting the efforts of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust with a donation – and we also want to tell our colleagues and clients about the organization's work.

A backpack full of compassion

This backpack has been through a lot. It was once part of a ranger's uniform. A ranger who courageously fought for the lives of orphaned elephants and helped raise them. The fabric has withstood the steppes of Kenya – and has been loving handcrafted by Africa Collect Textiles (ACT). So each backpack has a moving story to tell. And each of us can carry it into the world, as all of our employees will receive one of their very own.

By the way, each backpack purchase supports the work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. If you want to make a contribution of your own, check out their online shop!

Ruediger Goetz, Managing Director

"The dangerous reality of the rangers in Kenya is far away. But the backpack puts it close - and makes the impressive engagement literally tangible."
